Stay Young by eating the right Foods!

The process of aging occurs not only in the form of internal aging but also through the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The skin undergoes a natural process of ageing, but this process may be slowed down or even reversed if we only make the right choices. Good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle will postpone the process of aging. Foods rich in antioxidants counter damage that occurs due to oxidative damage to DNA, proteins, and macromolecules, which accelerates ageing.

Superoxide, hydrogen peroxide (H202), and hydroxyl radical (-OH), which are mutagens produced by radiation, are products of normal metabolism involved in ageing mechanism. Lipid peroxidation gives rise to mutagenic lipid peroxides, lipid hydroperoxides, lipid alkoxyl and peroxyl radicals, and enals (a,4-unsaturated aldehydes). Naturally occurring antioxidants, exhibit a wide range of biological effects, including anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, anti-atherosclerosis, and anticancer. Natural antioxidants are widely distributed in food and medicinal plants. Foods have shown promising benefits because they support anti-inflammatory or detoxification pathways in the body include cruciferous vegetables such as Broccoli, Argan oil, Coconut oil, Pomegranate, Soya, Green Tea, and marigold.
Vitamins also act as antioxidants to enhance anti-ageing. The vitamin D in yoghurt acts to reduce DNA damage, counter inflammation, photocarcinogenesis, and the appearance of ageing on skin. The vitamin B prevents skin inflammation and pigmentation and promotes collagen synthesis and to decelerate aging. Vegetable from the Brassica group such as broccoli, cauliflower, and collard greens are well worth the nutrition hype as they are a powerhouse of vitamins A, C, and E. One serving of broccoli provides detoxifying phytonutrients in addition to antioxidants that fights chronic inflammation. Vitamin C, found ubiquitously in all citrus fruits and also in pink guava and coriander will reverse the process of ageing, senile dryness, and protect you from sun damage through consumption and topical application. Figs are an excellent source of fiber, rich in polyphenols and flavonoids that prevent oxidative stress keeping us younger for longer.

Coupled with improved antioxidants, metabolism optimized through probiotics helps improve ageing. Agastache rugosa leaves and fermented foods like kimchi, kombucha, sauerkraut contain probiotics that improve the immune response, slow the ageing process and help the skin retain a youthful glow. Communities with the highest number of centenarians have traditionally consumed probiotic drinks to counter the harsh effects of growing older.
Including blueberry in the diet reverses age-related decline by improved cognitive and motor behavior as well as the improvement of memory. A simple fruit Pomegranate, Punica granatum, has potent antioxidant potential and has been used in multiple products as a topical antioxidant. Its high antioxidant content makes it an interesting potential ingredient in cosmetic formulations. Soybeans have bioactive compounds such as isoflavones that exert anti-carcinogenic effects and have an estrogen-like effect, which combats the accelerated aging due to menopause. The natural foods which possess anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities are well-worth the hype. All it takes to reverse the harsh processes of ageing are a few well-informed choices.

‘Gluten’sed situation…To eat or not to eat, that is the question!

All of us are constantly aiming at being fit these days, being the fittest, strongest, best we’ve been. But with the rise of social media platforms, a multitude of influencers are shelling out advice left and right. Directionless, we tend to follow this advice with the best intentions, however, we end up following most advice blindly. One such advice making rounds is “GOING GLUTEN-FREE WILL SOLVE MOST OF YOUR HEALTH-RELATED PROBLEMS”. Insert the ‘it will, right?’ meme here . Before understanding what gluten does to our bodies and if it really ameliorates all our health-related qualms, we must know what this magic substance is, abstinence from the consumption of which is considered to give us that much-needed physique. Gluten is essentially a broad term for a storage protein found in wheat such as prolamin, gliadin and glutenin, and many more. It is a staple for millions of people due to the consumption of breads worldwide. Then if it’s just a storage protein, why are so many mainstream

Is your lifestyle increasing the risk of PCOS?

Polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS as it is widely known has grown increasingly in the recent years. It is contradictory that the rate of disease is increasing even with the advancements in medical technology. Studies in Andhra Pradesh found that 9.13 percent of Indian adolescents had PCOS. It is estimated that 105 million girls between the ages of 15 and 49 globally suffer from this condition. It affects approximately one in every ten women of childbearing age.       This is indicative of a deeper problem; let's start with understanding the definition of PCOS. PCOS affects the level of female reproductive hormones and typically begins at the age of puberty. Women with PCOS produce higher than normal levels of androgen, a male hormone that can prevent ovulation, making it difficult to have regular menstrual cycles. In PCOS, ovulation is hampered and the follicles may turn into cysts. As a result, the body fails to produce progesterone hormone, causing menstrual periods to be dela

Stop using these 3 harmful kitchen products immediately!

The most widely used kitchen products have profound health implications. They show their effect only after being used for a prolonged period. Under the guise of packaging and hygiene, we are exposed to irritants and trace chemicals, which over time accumulate and lead to organ damage and inflammatory disorders. Here we provide a glimpse of the horrors that lie ahead in the use of everyday kitchen and household products and their possible alternatives.  Aluminum foil:   It is very convenient for our mothers to pack our food with aluminum foil or to prepare food in the latest non-stick aluminum cookware. During their use, trace quantities of aluminum are consumed by us. Although human bodies are particularly good at excreting tiny amounts of aluminum, most individuals are exposed to and consume considerably more than the recommended daily dose. The daily consumption of aluminum with utensils and foils exceeds the World Health Organization's recommended 40 mg per kg of body weight. Al
